Menopause Relief Is Possible: Discover How Acupuncture May Help!

Menopause is the latest use of the 3,000 year-old Chinese tradition -- it's already being used to reduce symptoms related to arthritis, back, neck, knee and shoulder pain, and anxiety.

Dr. Arya Nielsen of the Beth Israel Medical Center Department of Integrative Medicine who has practiced acupuncture for nearly 50 years, says acupuncture can help women manage menopause symptoms, especially hot flashes and anxiety.

  • It can make hot flashes less frequent and less intense.
  • Women may experience better quality of life as their symptoms improve.
  • After several treatments, patients may feel more relaxed and less anxious.
  • Nielsen says some women notice improvement, with daytime hot flashes decreasing first and night-time symptoms gradually declining too.

TCM view of treating Menopause:

According to the TCM, our kidneys have a small fire in them which is called the fire of gate of vitality.

This fire is supported by the fire of the heart. Kidneys’ water steams up and cools the fire of the heart. This way normally Fire and Water are in balance, and you don’t either feel HOT or COLD.

During the menopause the water of Kidneys or YIN, or based on western medicine Estrogen, begins to diminish.

When KIDNEY yin diminishes, it can no longer cool the HEART fire as it did before, so the total heat or fire of the body will exceed the normal tolerance of the person, and they will start having hot flashes, night sweating, headaches, mood swings and restless mind.

When this lingers for a while during the menopause they eventually cannot sleep well during the night and suffer from insomnia.

Weekly acupuncture can reduce the heart fire and increase the kidney yin. Once the fire and water return to their normal balance the symptoms of menopause start to disappear. Symptoms start to diminish after 6 treatments and will stay put once you go on maintenance regimen every 2-3 weeks!

Chinese Herbal Medicine can also play a pivotal role in creating this balance!
